Job Description

Shift: Variable. Maintains hospital trauma registry through identification of appropriate patients, abstraction of data from daily rounding and patient medical records and entry of data into trauma registry database. Assigns Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) E-codes for injuries; assigns ICD-9CM codes; assigns ISS Scores, collects, enters, and maintains data. Generates reports based on data as needed, collects trauma data for research, injury prevention and performance improvement. Documents and records data accurately. Provides secretarial/clerical support as necessary.
Associates degree (LPN, HIM or other medical/biological science field); may substitute with 3-5 years trauma registry experience and/or Certified Trauma Registrar (CTR) designation by the American Trauma Registrars Society Certification Board (ATSRCB)
Within two years of employment, achievement of Certified Trauma Registrar (CTR)
Experience in computer software- Database software preferred, 3 years trauma registry preferred.Working knowledge of trauma, medical terminology and anatomy. ICD-9CM coding, AIS/ISS coding and scoring, E codes. Typing speed of 50 wpm. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. Must maintain confidentiality of patient records. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with physicians and other hospital personnel
Ability to screen medical records for pertinent diagnoses, procedures and clinical data
Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in data collection
Strong organizational skills. Ability to operate a PC and related business machines with accuracy. Ability to be self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure and take initiative to contribute beyond the scope of formal duties (e.g., suggesting innovative ideas and providing feedback on a team s direction). Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
